Yes - our city has enough food for everyone.

And yet, 1 in 9 Amsterdammers lives with food insecurity,
while tons of edible food are thrown away every week.
Get a Plate exists in that gap.

A map of caring food spots ๐Ÿงก

So many food initiatives across Amsterdam are doing things differently: Community kitchens cooking with rescued ingredients, Buurtmaaltijden, where neighbors share a table. Food markets with rescued groceries for free for the neighborhood. Food banks (voedselbanken) support people who need it most.
We bring them all onto one map.

Get a Plate helps you discover affordable food in Amsterdam, discover discounted meals with your Stadspas, join the fight against food wastage, and meet neighbors. Whether you're looking for cheap eats, a free dinner, a place to volunteer, or somewhere to feel less alone over a plate of soup.ย Get a Plate is your way in.

Food spots in Amsterdam

A love letter to the people
feeding our city ๐Ÿ’Œ

A love letter to the volunteers, the cooks, the dreamers, the doers feeding our city.
We make their work visible and help them find new neighbors and partners.

We stand with initiatives fighting food insecurity, rescuing food, and building a more circular food system in Amsterdam - meal by meal.

Building the city we want to eat in
one plate at a time ๐Ÿฝ๏ธ

We don't have to wait for a kinder city.
We can taste it now, and amplify its flavour.

So pull up a chair, grab a plate, and join us.
There's space for you at the table.

Hi! Hoi!

If you've scrolled this far, hey - my name is Noa ๐Ÿ‘‹
I moved to the Netherlands 6 years ago (time flies!) and have not been able
to imagine my life without a bike since. I care deeply about how we live in cities,
how we consume, and the power of our everyday choices to create a more sustainable world.

Get a Plate began in 2025, growing out of my master's thesis on cross-sectoral collaboration,
in the urban food system. Through this research,
I discovered so many inspiring projects โ€“
so many people are deeply committed to making food more accessible and reducing food waste.

Questions that haunted me:

How can we make them more visible?
How can we help more people benefit from existing resources?
How can we advance a city that eats with greater consciousness and care?

your ideas and feedback truly matter to me. ๐Ÿ’Œ
